Paper Wings nominated at the UKMVAs

News
Paper Wings, our video for Ayo Bello, is nominated for Best Styling at the UK Music Video Awards 2025. Winners are announced in London in November.
Petals, cut by hand
Every petal on Ayo’s face was cut and placed by hand on the day. There is no VFX in the video. Our styling team cut more than four hundred paper petals in three weights, then built each look on set in the hour before it was shot, so the paper still had its shape and edge on camera.
The look had to survive close-ups, slow turns and a fan. Some petals were glued, some just balanced, and a few fell off mid-take, which made it into the final cut.
Two performers and a white cyc
Theo Marsh kept everything else as simple as possible: two performers, one white cyc and slow turns that let the paper move with the breath. DOP Mara Vidal lit it soft and from above, so the petals cast tiny shadows that read as texture rather than make-up.
“The styling is the set. Once we had the petals, the best thing we could do was get out of the way.” — Theo Marsh
Made with Oyster Records
The video was commissioned by Oyster Records, with Tomás Rey producing and Noa Berg running a one-day shoot that had very little room for retakes. Hana Kim cut it to Ayo’s vocal rather than the beat, so the turns land on the breaths in the song.
See you in November
We are proud to be nominated alongside some of our favourite videos of the year. Thank you to Ayo for sitting very still under four hundred pieces of paper, to Oyster Records for backing a handmade idea, and to everyone who cut a petal at one in the morning the night before the shoot.
